Because of this real estate boom, speculators flocked to the Placida FL area to invest in pre-construction condominium complexes. Most of the people that invested in these condos never intended to actually live in them. These units were bought solely for the purpose of flipping to new purchasers for a profit once they were completed.
The reason the that the Placida Florida condo market was so hot was the fact that this in one of the most pristine and beautiful areas of Florida. Placida is just on the mainland side from Boca Grande which is prohibitively expensive. This proximity to Boca Grande world class beached and amenities make Placida a terrific place to vacation and to live, the problem is, most folks have never heard of it. The boom in building and subsequent crash of the housing market has created a vacuum of unsold condo units just right to the picking.
